Bonjour parents/guardians,

I hope everyone is doing well. Here are some important updates on your child’s learning progress and upcoming events.

Upcoming Events:

November 11th – Remembrance Day Assembly
We will have our Remembrance Day assembly on November 11th (time to be confirmed, but please be ready for around 9:30 a.m.). You are welcome to join us and watch your child’s performance if possible. Students are encouraged to wear a white shirt or t-shirt with black pants, or a white dress if available. Each student will receive a poppy made in class. If black and white is not possible, a light-colored top would work as long as the poppy can be seen.

November 12th – Photo Retake Day
For those who would like a retake, Photo Retake Day is scheduled for November 12th.

November 20th – English Spelling Quiz
Students have practiced the spelling words twice in class, and they should be familiar with both the spelling and meaning. You can find the list of words in the “Resources” section and in your child’s English folder.

November 21st – Math Quiz
The math quiz is scheduled for November 21st. Expectations for the quiz can be found in the “Resources” section.

Please encourage your child to bring their math and English notebooks and duo-tangs home to practice, and to return them to school the next day.

Learning Updates:

In French, we continue to emphasize oral activities. Students now know how to introduce themselves and are working on following more complex directions given by Madame, which helps to strengthen their listening skills. Instructions include phrases such as, “Maintenant, la classe de Mme vont chanter la chanson du jour du souvenir, récitez le poème.” Next week, students will begin focusing on verb tenses, simple sentences, articles (le, la, mes, ma, etc.), and forming sentences with être and avoir.

In English, students have been introduced to different text forms, such as biographies, comic strips, poems, and letters. They are learning the initial steps in the writing process, including brainstorming ideas step-by-step, making notes, and creating illustrations to organize their thoughts. They’ve also learned how to spell and understand the meanings of new vocabulary words, which will be included in the spelling quiz on November 20th.

In Math, students have completed the second part of number sense and numeration, which includes comparing numbers using terms like “greater than,” “less than,” and “equal to.” They should also know how to use symbols such as >, <, and =. We’ve also practiced counting money, focusing on coins and cents—please encourage this at home with real or play money! Additionally, students have worked on number riddles and should know how to create three-digit numbers (e.g., 3, 4, and 7 can form 347, 743, 374 etc.) and compare them.

This week, students are learning how to round numbers to the nearest ten and hundred; note that rounding will NOT be included in the quiz on November 21st, as it’s still a new concept.

In the coming weeks, we will add Social Studies and Health updates under Announcements.

Thank you for your continued support!

Merci,
Mme Sitar
