Bonjour parents & guardians,

I hope everyone is doing well! I have a few important announcements to share before I provide the learning updates:

  1. Tomorrow’s Events:
Tomorrow is Pyjama Day, as well as Bring Your Stuffed Animal to School Day. It is also the class party day, and students are encouraged to bring educational games to school to share with their classmates. Please remind your child to bring their favorite stuffed animal, come in their cozy pajamas, and bring an educational game!
  2. Gift Exchange:
Tomorrow will also be the end-of-year gift exchange. Please ensure your child brings their gift to school so that the person they drew a name for will receive it. If your child is going to be absent due to illness, kindly let me know by the end of the day today, along with the name of the student they drew, so I can arrange for their gift.
  3. Holiday Homework:
There will be no homework during the holidays. Students are to enjoy this time to relax and recharge for the new year!
  4. Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given to students in the new year. It’s been a very busy time on my end, and it was nearly impossible to grade all the quizzes on time, especially with 115 quizzes in total (5 quizzes per student and 23 students). Many students have also been away, so we are still catching up on quizzes today. I will return them in January.
  5. Lost and Found:
Students will be thoroughly checking the lost and found in the school. If you know your child has lost something, this would be a good time to remind them to check, as they may be able to locate their items.
  6. Duo Tangs and Notebooks:
If your child has brought any duo tangs or notebooks home, please ensure that they bring them back to school tomorrow. Everything should stay in school so that we do not lose things over the holidays.
  7. Class Photos:
Some parents have requested class photos or pictures of activities done in class. I will try my best to upload some by the end of the day tomorrow. They will be available under the “Resources” section. Feel free to check.

Learning Updates:

French:
Students have been learning the verbs “to have” and “to be” through the Pink Panther tune, as you know. They should now be able to form simple sentences using these verbs. In the new year, we will shift focus to more conversational topics to help students open up more to the French language through fun and engaging activities. We will also be focusing a lot more on reading and writing in French.

Social Studies: Students are learning about Canada and its communities (First Nations, Europeans, etc.) in French. At the moment, they are working on a mini questionnaire and project in pairs, using a Social Studies book in French, along with laptops for Google Docs. This project must be completed in class as group work and should not be done at home.

Science:
In Science, students are continuing to learn about plants, including their needs and the different parts (seeds, flowers, roots, etc.) as well as their functions. In January, we will discuss these topics further and introduce photosynthesis. Students will also work on a mini project in pairs, which will be in English.

Math:
In Math, we have been working on fractions and division. We’ve used manipulatives and real-life examples (such as pizza slices, pie slices, money, etc.) to introduce these concepts. Students should now be able to identify simple fractions like 1/4, 1/5, and 15/40.

English:
In English, students have learned how to use a dictionary and are working on expanding their vocabulary with words like “flaw,” “flip,” “flinch,” “grip,” and “wicked.” They’ve also learned about sentence structure, including adjectives, articles, verbs, and predicates. We will now begin creating paragraphs and exploring different text forms (such as letters, narratives, etc.).

Health:
Health will start in January. More details will follow once we begin.

Thank you for your support thus far in the school year!

Have a safe holiday!

Best regards,

Mme
