Learning Updates

Math
We completed our unit on fractions. Students have been learning to identify and understand numerators and denominators, recognize and create equivalent fractions, represent fractions using visual models, solve fraction-related problems, and compare fractions using the symbols <, >, and =.

Next week, we will focus on geometry and measurement questions that may appear on the EQAO assessment.

Language
Over the past two weeks, students have focused on letter writing and personal narrative writing. They worked through the writing process by brainstorming ideas, organizing their writing with a clear beginning, middle, and end, and using transition words to strengthen the flow of their writing.

Social Studies (en français)
Students learned about early settlers and explorers, including Samuel de Champlain, John Cabot, and Jacques Cartier, and their contributions to early Canadian history. They also explored the origin of the word “Canada,” which comes from the Indigenous word Kanata. As we conclude this unit, we will begin deeper discussions around Truth and Reconciliation and what this means for us today.

Science (en français)
We will begin our new unit on Soil in the Environment (Le sol dans l’environnement). Students will learn about the different components and types of soil, how soil supports plant and animal life, and the important role soil plays in our environment. They will also explore how humans use soil in everyday life and investigate ways to protect and care for this natural resource.
