Dear Parents/Guardians,

Here are a few classroom updates and announcements.

Announcements

1- Homework
Homework is due Monday, April 13th.

2- Swim to Survive
Students will be participating in the Swim to Survive program on the following dates:

  • Thursday, April 23 (whole class together with me)
  • Second session: The class will be divided into smaller groups and will join other Grade 3 classes. Possible dates include April 24, 28, 29, or May 4. This change is due to scheduling conflicts with the April 30 concert, as well as limited availability for buses and EQAO dates.

A letter will be sent home on Monday in the homework folder. It will include details about which class your child will join for their second session.

  • Third session: Thursday, May 7 (whole class together with me)

Please note: Sessions 1 and 3 will be together as a full class. Only Session 2 will be in smaller groups. Permission forms will be sent home on Monday, April 13th.

3- Spring Concert
Our junior concert will take place on April 30. Song lyrics have been sent home, and students are encouraged to review and practice them.

4- EQAO Practice
Please continue practicing EQAO at home using the Resources tab. Additional Language practice links have been shared through students’ Gmail accounts. Students are encouraged to revisit and redo these, even if they have already completed them in class.

5- Upcoming Grades
Parents/Guardians, you will notice in the updates below that students are either being assessed or will be assessed soon across all subjects. Before moving on to new topics, it is important to evaluate their understanding. Grades will be sent home as they become available. I will continue to keep you updated.

6- Class Rewards
There are 50-point winners and riddle/devinettes winners. As usual, students may choose to receive a small prize for riddles or opt to omit a homework assignment for earning 50 points. To respect student privacy, a certificate will be placed in your child’s homework folder to inform you if they have received a reward.

Learning Updates

French
Students completed a reading comprehension activity that was collected and will be assessed. They also completed additional follow-up activities as another opportunity to demonstrate their understanding. I will record the better of the two grades. This will also help provide insight into your child’s reading and writing level in French.

Math
Students have learned how to calculate mean, mode, and median. They completed an in-class activity that will be assessed.

We have also begun learning multiplication and division concepts through grouping, sharing, and problem-solving.

Language
Students are working on a paragraph writing assignment that will be assessed. They are practicing brainstorming ideas, writing a rough draft (which will be reviewed), and then creating a good copy.

Social Studies
Students are continuing to learn about First Nations communities, including the Métis, Inuit, and Anishinaabe, and comparing aspects of their daily lives with our own.

Next week, students will complete a short in-class activity that will be assessed to evaluate their understanding of these topics.

Science
We have learned about the parts of plants and flowers, including pollination, as well as photosynthesis (how plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to make their own food and grow). Students have also learned how this process connects plants, animals, and humans.

An in-class activity will take place soon that will be assessed to show students’ understanding of these concepts.

Merci,
Mme
