Dear Parents,

Here are a few classroom updates and announcements.

Announcements

1- Homework:

Homework has been sent home. Please ensure all completed work is returned by Monday, March 30

2- EQAO:

EQAO information and resources have been posted under the Resources tab. Please take a moment to review them, as they address common questions and include links to sample EQAO practice questions that students can try at home.

Winners:

  • Devinettes (French riddles): Liam, Kameron, Aiden, Siyona, Zain A, and Katarina.  Students received a mini prize.
  • Weekly 50-Point Winners: Zain A, Phoebe, Aiden, Hani, Siyona, Emir, Kiara, and Alyssa. Students may have chosen a mini prize30 minutes of educational Chromebook time, or to omit one out of three homework assignments for next week.

 Reminders/Requests:

  • I have been providing supplies in the classroom; however, to minimize constant disruptions, please send your child with a simple pencil case with basic supplies (pencils, erasers, pencil crayons if available).
  • We are continuing EQAO practice in class. Headphones are provided; however, if students prefer, they may bring their own on Thursdays

Classroom Resources:
A former Corsair P.S. student wrote two French books. Flyers with information about the books will be send home if you would like to purchase them.

Students are also bringing home a Minimag booklet with information and activities related to Franco-Ontarian Day, all in French.

Additionally, we read a book about personal boundaries during a community circle (generously purchased by Aiden’s parents—merci!). This sparked thoughtful discussions about situations students may encounter both in and outside of school.

Coming Up (next week):

  • Math:  An in-class assessment will focus on mean, median, and mode. Students may use their duo tangs to review definitions and examples. The work they complete will be assessed to check their understanding. This is not a test. You may review these concepts at home to support your child. Math duo tangs will be sent home so you can see the types of activities completed in class.
  • French: Students will complete a reading comprehension activity in class, which will be assessed. French duo tangs will be sent home so you can see the types of reading comprehension activities we have been working on.

Learning Update

French:
We continue practicing devinettes (riddles) and reading comprehension activities. Students are building confidence in speaking and listening through daily practice, games, and class discussions.

Math:
We are continuing our Data Management unit. Students have developed a solid understanding of mode, and this week we will begin learning about median

Language:
We are wrapping up our paragraph writing unit. Students have been working on crafting strong topic sentences using different techniques such as:

  • Questions
  • Exclamations
  • Bold statements
  • Interesting facts (e.g., “Did you know sharks can…”

Students are also practicing how to add supporting details to their topic sentences.

Science:
We are continuing our Plants unit, exploring plant needs, parts, and their importance in our environment.

Social Studies:
Students have been deeply engaged in learning about First Nations communities, reconciliation, and the history of residential schools.
We read Quand j’avais huit ans (generously donated by Aiden’s parents—merci!) and Le petit papillon, which led to meaningful discussions and thoughtful student questions about this important part of Canadian history.

Thank you for your continued support.

Merci,

Mme 😊
