Dear Parents,
Here are a few classroom updates and announcements.
Announcements
French:
Students completed their French skits and dictée yesterday. Their graded work is going home today. Please review, sign, and return the assessments inside the homework folder by tomorrow.
Homework folders will remain in the classroom over March Break to help ensure they are not lost.
Homework Review:
Homework was checked in class. Students also reviewed and corrected their Math and Language work together so they could better understand their mistakes and improve their learning.
Spirit Day:
Friday, March 13 – Pajama Day! Students may bring a stuffy if they wish. We will continue learning during the day. There will be no movie or party yet, but students are working toward earning one as a class reward.
Weekly 50-Point Winners:
Congratulations to Zain A., Siyona, Phoebe, Aiden, Emir, and Hani for earning the most points this week for meeting classroom expectations (speaking French, listening, respect, and being prepared).
Students received a mini prize or selected 30 minutes of educational Chromebook time.
French Game Winners:
Congratulations to Liam, Phoebe, Kameron, Emir and Alyssa for winning our French learning games (devinettes, fautes en français, jeux). They also received a small prize.
March Break:
There will be no homework during March Break.
Under the Resources tab on the class website, I have posted three helpful links that students can use at home to review concepts if they wish. Details can be found under the Resources section.
Learning Update
French:
We will continue building oral communication skills through games, activities, and classroom discussions to help students feel confident speaking French.
We have also started working on reading comprehension texts and answering questions using simple sentences.
Math:
Students are continuing our Data Management unit. We have been learning about qualitative and quantitative data, primary and secondary data, and are now beginning to explore mean and mode.
Language:
We are focusing on paragraph writing. Currently, students are learning how to write a strong topic sentence and the difference between a basic sentence and one that grabs the reader’s attention.
Science:
We are continuing our Plants unit, learning about plant parts, what plants need to survive, and why plants are important for living things.
Social Studies:
Students are continuing to explore First Nations communities, early settlers, and aspects of Canadian history.
Have a wonderful and restful March Break.
Merci,
Mme 😊
