Learning Updates
Math
Students are currently learning multiplication using the standard algorithm (2-digit by 1-digit numbers), such as 26 × 7. We will also be reviewing subtraction strategies, including 2-digit and 3-digit subtraction problems (e.g., 36 − 22 and 365 − 148), to strengthen number sense and computational fluency.
Language
Students are learning about different forms of poetry, including haiku poems. They are identifying poetic elements such as rhythm, imagery, and descriptive language, and will be creating their own poems. Students have also begun developing their cursive writing skills and are practicing letter formation and handwriting fluency.
Social Studies
We will begin our new unit on Living and Working in Ontario. Students will learn about Ontario’s regions, land use, natural resources, communities, and the different types of jobs that support the province. They will also make connections between these topics and their own community.
Science
In Science, students are learning about Soil in the Environment. So far, they have explored what soil is, the different layers and components of soil, and why soil is important for plants and animals. Students have also learned about living things that can be found in soil, such as earthworms, ants, beetles, and other insects that help keep soil healthy. As we continue the unit, students will investigate different soil types, how humans use soil in everyday life, and ways to protect this important natural resource.
