Dear Parents,
Students are settling well into our classroom routines. A daily schedule has been introduced so students know which subjects we will be focusing on each day. Each student has a copy at school, and another copy was sent home in the homework folder for you to keep as a reference.
Homework will be sent weekly (Monday to Monday) and may include French, Math, English, and occasionally Science or Social Studies. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns.
In French, we are focusing on oral communication through games, songs, and interactive activities to help students build confidence speaking French. Students can earn small rewards during activities (such as small markers, squishy balls, and other classroom prizes). We also use a weekly 50-point system to encourage positive learning habits such as speaking French, listening carefully, showing respect, and coming prepared.
Students are currently preparing a short group play, which will be presented and graded on Wednesday. They will also complete a dictée (a listening and spelling activity) that will be graded. All materials and practice sheets are in the students’ French folders. These folders will be sent home daily until Wednesday so students can review and practice.
In English, students are practicing inference skills and paragraph writing. They are learning how to use clues from a text along with their own thinking to understand ideas that are not directly stated. Students have also completed an EQAO style practice assessment in class with the support of a coach. Laptops and headsets were provided for this activity.
In Math, we are focusing on problem solving using addition and subtraction strategies, as well as data management (qualitative and quantitative data). Students have also practiced EQAO-style questions in class with guidance.
In Science, we have begun our unit on plants. Students are learning about the parts of a plant and what plants need to survive, such as sunlight, water, air, nutrients, and space. We will also explore how plants grow and why plants are important for living things.
In Social Studies, students have begun learning about First Nations communities, early settlers, and aspects of Canadian history.
Dates to Remember:
- Monday, March 9 – Homework from last week is due.
- Wednesday, March 11 – Group play presentations and dictée (spelling/listening quiz). All materials are in the French folder.
Note: No homework will be assigned next week due to March Break, in accordance with board guidelines.
Thank you for your continued support.
Merci,
Mme
