Assessment Overview

Your child should be coming home with 7 grades, unless they were absent and unable to complete the work. Please email me if your child does not come home with 7 grades.

Please find below an overview of recent classroom assessments across subject areas.

In French, students completed a reading comprehension assessment based on Le soccer. The text was read and translated as a class, and all questions were reviewed before students worked independently. This task is assessed at a Grade 3 level. All students were also provided with a second, simplified version as an additional support assessment, including basic vocabulary and a drawing-based response to demonstrate understanding.

In Math, students completed an assessment on mean, median, and mode. Concepts were taught, reviewed, and supported with classroom anchor charts. Students were allowed to use their duo tangs and were provided with calculators. Students were given an opportunity to revise their work, and the best version was assessed.

In Social Studies, students completed an assessment comparing two First Nations houses and wrote a letter to a First Nations child, imagining life 200 years ago. Instructions were provided in English and students could use Google Translate for support.

In Science, students completed an assessment on food chains involving the sun, plants, and animals. They created their own food chains and explained the connections between each part. They also completed a written reflection on the importance of the sun for all living things and a follow-up task on actions that help protect the planet, supported by a word bank.

In English, students completed a paragraph writing assessment. The focus was on the writing process, including multiple drafts and revisions before final submission. Rough copies are attached to show student progress.

I hope this provides a clear overview of your child’s assessment progress across all subject areas.

Thank you for your continued support.
