Students should be reviewing activities done in class (in their Math folder and notebook)

Key concepts:

  1. Standard Form
  • This is the way we normally write numbers. For example, the number 3284 is written in standard form as 3284
  1. Written Form
  • This involves spelling out the number in words. For 3284, the written form is three thousand two hundred eighty-four
  1. Expanded Form
  • This shows the value of each digit in the number. For 3284, the expanded form is:
  • 3000 + 200 + 80 + 4
  1. Place Value Chart
  • This chart helps to identify the value of each digit in a number. For 3284:
  • Thousand: 3
  • Hundred: 2
  • Tens: 8
  • Ones: 4
  1. Visual Representation
  • Using pictures or models, such as ten blocks, can help students understand the concept of place value and how numbers are constructed.

For ten blocs, students usually draw big squares for thousands, smaller ones for hundreds, sticks for tens, and small squares for ones to represent a number.
