Dear Parents,

I hope everyone is doing well! The students have had a great start to the school year, and it has been amazing getting to know them while building a strong classroom community together. From the beginning of the school year, we have been engaging in many community circles where students openly share their feelings and wishes. We’ve also been practicing positive affirmations in French each morning, such as je suis gentille (I am kind), je suis fort (I am strong), je suis courageux (I am brave), and je suis super (I am awesome), among others.

In Math, we started with coloring the 100 chart, differentiating between even and odd numbers, and discussing the value of digits (ones and tens). This week, we will begin exploring bigger numbers as we start our Number Sense and Numeration module. Grade 3 students will focus on composing and decomposing whole numbers up to 1,000, while Grade 4 students will work with numbers up to 10,000. We will also use base ten blocks to represent these numbers.

In French, we are focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing. So far, students have learned the national anthem in French, as well as a fun song (Bonjour mes amis, comment ça va?). Feel free to ask them to sing these for you! We have also read a few French books and discussed them together. For writing, students were asked to share their excitement about the new school year and their favorite subjects. This activity allowed me to assess their current writing levels and skills.

In English, we have been discussing complete sentences vs. fragments. Students are reminded that complete sentences begin with a capital letter and end with punctuation (period, question mark, etc.). We have also been looking at words and their meanings.

Please note that all of the worksheets from these activities should be in your child’s Math, English, and French duotangs. Students also have notebooks for these subjects. If your child decides to bring their work home to review, please ensure it is returned to school the next day.

Reminders:

  • English Spelling Quiz: Thursday, September 19th
  • French Quiz: Friday, September 20th

The words for the quizzes can be found under the “Resources” section. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at shivani.popatsitar@peeldb.com.

Thank you, and have a wonderful day!

Best regards,
Mme Sitar
